What's New

  • JULY 2007 - PAR marked a victory in the legislative arena by defeating attempts to increase the RTT as a funding source for mass transit. PAR launched a Call-to-Action and 3,600 letters were sent to legislators. The increase was pulled from consideration in the transportation funding bill.

  • JUNE 2007 - The Susquehanna Valley Center for Public Policy released results of the report, Why Tax the American Dream: Why Raising the Realty Transfer Tax is Bad Public Policy, at a press conference in the Capitol Rotunda. Following the report, an Op-Ed piece reflecting the findings was distributed to print media throughout the state. PAR Treasurer Don Roth was interviewed by Dr. Charlie Greenawalt for the public access cable show, Behind the Headlines.
     
  • APRIL 2007 - PAR conducted a public opinion poll which found that 80 percent of Pennsylvanians oppose an increase in the RTT. PAR held a press conference at the State Capitol to release the results of the poll. President Dominic Cardone was joined by Pennsylvania Builders Association President Stephen Black, and Jim Lee, president of Susquehanna Polling & Research. PAR provided each member of the House and Senate with an outline of the survey and an illustrated map showing the percentages of opposition across PA following the press conference.

  • NOVEMBER 2006 - The Transportation Funding and Reform Commission issued a final report calling for an 0.89 percent increase in the state realty transfer tax and a 0.50 percent increase in the local realty transfer tax to help pay for mass transit funding in Pennsylvania.   • NOVEMBER 2005 - PAR's Issues Mobilization Committee funded a statewide media campaign to fight any increase to the Realty Transfer Tax (RTT).  PAR ran newspaper ads and radio spots across the Commonwealth.  All proposals to increase the RTT were defeated.  You can access the ads, both print and radio, by clicking the links below.
