ISSUES MOBILIZATION

Building grassroots support for REALTORS®

PAR’s Issues Mobilization Committee funds advocacy campaigns on issues that have a statewide impact on private property rights and/or homeownership.

The Committee:

  • Collects and disburses contributions to affect issues with statewide impact on private property rights or home ownership,
  • Supports grassroots lobbying and education, and
  • Encourages REALTORS® to take an active role in government decision-making and the legislative process.

As a standing committee at PAR (and NAR), the Issues Mobilization Committee collects and disburses funds to provide financial support for initiatives such as:

· Ballot-measure campaigns

· Grassroots lobbying

· Mass media advertising

· Educational forums

· Data collection/research

What’s an issue advocacy campaign? It’s an organized effort to educate the voting public on an issue and to mobilize voters to support your position. In an issue campaign, no candidate is running. It’s the issue or policy that’s competing.

The Committee is available to help local associations on issues of importance to the real estate industry.  Local associations can use the Local Ordinance Review Program to gain legal insight and provide direction on how to fight such measures in your municipality.  Requests for review through the Program must be submitted through the following form.

Local associations can also access matching funds through Issues Mobilization to help support or oppose issues in your area.  All applications for funding must be filed by a local association/board. Guidelines and application forms are available, as well as a funding history on recently supported campaigns. (Secure: Log-In Required)

The Issues Archive provides background information and legal opinions on topics such as realty transfer tax, sign ordinances, and point-of-sale. (Secure: Log-In Required)

Information on the 2009 Committee Members, Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations are also available.
